What is Hypnosis?

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind of heightened suggestibility. Another popular term used to describe this state is "Trance". The greatest benefits of this state are that it allows us to access our infinite resources that lie hidden in the deepest depths of our minds and to create desired change in our lives.

We all experience this state on a daily basis while daydreaming, watching TV, reading a book, exercising, listening to music or while we are engaged in some routine activities that leave our imagination free to wander.

All of us enter this state of heightened suggestibility every night just before we fall asleep and every morning before we are fully awake.

One way to access the hidden treasure-house of our minds is through deep relaxation of mind and body.  Another way is through intense emotional experience. However, an unpleasant   event can cause intense emotional trauma within the subconscious mind. Once established within the subconscious that trauma will continue to cause emotionally disturbing symptoms until it is changed for a more beneficial response  Hypnosis is extremely effective in achieving such a changes - quickly and effectively.

Stage hypnosis and misconceptions
It is unfortunate that most people's first encounter of hypnosis is through watching television and stage hypnotists at work. This can lead people to believe that they may be controlled or manipulated or made to do something silly.

NOTHING could be further from the truth.

At all times you remain in control and perfectly awake. Hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is just about relaxation. You may feel very heavy, relaxed,  or quite light and tingly. It's just a wonderful, deeply pleasant and relaxing experience.

A good technical definition of hypnosis is: A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a heightened awareness induced by suggestion. The word hypnosis is derived from the Greek word 'hypnos' meaning 'to sleep". In hypnosis your eyes are closed and you may appear to be sleeping but I assure you that you  are always alert - you are always in control.
